red eggs for full moon party

These were made as favors to guests who came to celebrate the first full moon of max, my nephew. In the chinese culture, red eggs represent good fortune, completeness, prosperity and fertility.

The eggs are hardboiled.

Then they are dyed. We used beets to accomplish this.
These are the different materials used for the packaging and presentation of the red egg favors. The chinese characters read 'full moon.'
The eggs didn't quite turn red but they were ever so lightly stained....good enough.
Each egg was wrapped with a red cloth.
Then placed in the pouch that was made of parchment paper and sewn together with white thread.
I bunched the top part of each pouch and secured it with gold thread...
....that was tied into a bow.
The finished product.

gift for new parents and baby

My sister and her husband recently had a child and I made a book of wishes and thoughts from friends and family (similar to the 30th birthday project in my other blog entry). There are three parts in this collection; one for the parents and two for the baby. I used moleskin notebooks and handwrote each entry.
